Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, condemned the terrorist attack in Ganderbal, Jammu & Kashmir, calling it a "cowardly and unforgivable crime."
In a post on X, the Congress leader extended condolences to the victims' families and underlined their commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
"The terrorist attack in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed several individuals, including a doctor and migrant labourers, is a cowardly and unforgivable crime." Rahul Gandhi expressed his sympathies to the departed families and wished rapid recovery to the injured.
He stressed that terrorists cannot disrupt development in Jammu and Kashmir or shake people's faith. "The entire nation is united in the fight against terrorism."
On Sunday evening, suspected Pakistani militants opened fire on a private construction workers' site, killing six labourers and one doctor. The victims included Dr. Shahnawaz from Budgam, Gurmeet Singh from Gurdaspur, Punjab, Inder Yadav from Bihar, and several more from Jammu and Kashmir. The attack on construction workers was one of the most violent in the region in over three decades, resulting in numerous injuries.
On Police Commemoration Day, Union Minister Amit Shah addressed the event and pledged to honour security personnel's sacrifices.
"Our security forces have successfully controlled terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir over the past decade, but the battle is far from over," Shah emphasised his commitment to combating terrorism, drug trafficking, and anti-Indian actions.
In an X post, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who represents the Ganderbal constituency, condemned the violence as a "dastardly and cowardly assault on non-local labourers."
The Ganderbal attack is part of a troubling pattern of violence against civilians. On June 9, terrorists targeted a bus carrying pilgrims in the Reasi area, causing several casualties and injuries.
